International Students
Application and Admission Process

The MBA Program is open to graduates from all disciplines. Students should have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the United States, or proof of equivalent training at a foreign university. Ten percent of our students are international students.

Application Deadlines:

Application materials for Fall semester must be filed at the Graduate School and the MBA Office by:
International Students by mid-March (March 15).

Application materials for Spring semester must be filed at the Graduate School and the MBA Office by: International Students by mid-October (October 15).

Application Checklist:

The Graduate School requires the following information:

  • Complete an Online Application Form with the required fee.
  • One copy of Official Transcripts of all college-level course work previously taken, and
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
  • Three letters of recommendation.  You can choose to have a hard copy of the letter of recommendation sent to the graduate school or you can provide an email address on the online application for each of the individuals you wish to have submit a letter of recommendation electronically.
  • International candidates must have strong English language communication skills, both written and spoken. As an international student, you must submit an acceptable score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). For TOEFL, you must score 550 or above (paper-based test) or 213 or above (computer-based test) or 79 or above (internet based TOEFL). For IELTS, you must have a score of 7 or above. Students are expected to complete a great deal of reading and writing in the program.  A strong command of the English language is critical for their success. The TOEFL is waived for students who have completed degree programs conducted in English in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia or New Zealand. 
  • Send a copy of your current visa to the Graduate School, mail stop 326, University of Nevada, Reno, NV 89557. Be sure to include a statement “this is part of my application for the MBA program” when you send the visa copy. If you wish, you can fax a copy of your current visa, along with the statement to 775-784-6064.
    After the current visa information is received, a staff member from the Office of International Students and Scholars will contact you. They will advise you regarding visa and admission issues. If you have questions regarding your visa and potential enrollment in this program you may contact the Office of International Students and Scholars at www.unr.edu/oiss.

  • a two or three-page personal statement describing your background and why getting an MBA would enhance your career/professional goals.

Admission Criteria:

Admission to the MBA Program requires fulfillment of all three of the following:

  • A minimum GPA (grade point average) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale,
  • A minimum GMAT score of 500. GMAT scores over five years old are not accepted,
  • A minimum of two years of professional work experience.
