mkt 456 class contributions
contribution plan syllabus (pdf)

Throughout the semester there are four individual assignments. These are submitted in person in class and used for class discussion (thus the term "class contributions"), and won't be accepted via e-mail or at other times. Your grades for only the top three of your assignments will count, allowing you to miss one if needed.

Class contributions must be created individually (not collaboratively).

Excellent example of a position paper

1. Three Minute Pitches (schedule section 1 and 2)
Deliver an oral persuasive presentation to the class on your choice of one of two topics. Topic instructions and grading.

2. Debate: Free trade versus Protectionism (due 9/14) (See below for general position paper instructions and template)
Argue one of these two assigned positions: 1) Free trade creates economic prosperity for all trading countries, or 2) Protectionism is better for creating economic prosperity. Consider issues such as job loss, product prices, balance of trade deficits, political issues, and many more arguments supporters of each side use.

3. Debate: Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid (due 10/26) (See below for general position paper instructions and template)
Read case 3-4 in the textbook: Marketing to the Bottom of the Pyramid. Argue one of these two assigned positions: 1) it IS, or 2) it is NOT exploitation for a company to profit from selling soaps, shampoo, personal computers, and ice cream, and so forth to people with little disposable income. Think about whether or not it is the responsibility of a company to be socially responsible.

4. Negotiation evaluation (due 12/7)
Immediately after the negotiation you'll evaluate the team and player performance as a basis for debriefing. Then, go home and reflect a bit, and type your comments on these two forms for submission the following week: team evaluation and player evaluation. Note that you must participate in the negotiation to submit this assignment.
