Research Interests

 

The primary research stream focuses on the socially responsible management of the supply chain.  This research stream encompasses ethical issues in buyer-supplier relationships, environmental supply management, diversity sourcing, perceptions of opportunism surrounding electronic reverse auctions, and the broader, integrative concepts of social responsibility and sustainability.  A second and often intersecting area of research examines issues relating to international supply chain management.  A third stream of research considers and analyzes the status and evolution of research in the field of supply chain management, and provides guidance and thought leadership regarding future research directions in the field.




Publications

Research has been published in numerous logistics-related journals, including Decision Sciences, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Transportation Journal, and Transportation Research Part E. Research projects have also been summarized and highlighted in numerous trade publications including Purchasing Today and Electronic Buyer, and experiential learning activities have been broadcasted by Fox News and National Public Radio.




Teaching
Course taught at the undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. levels. Topics include logistics and transportation, international supply chain management, operations management, quality management, purchasing and materials management, and international business.

Professional affiliations include the Academy of Management, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Decision Sciences Institute, and Institute for Supply Management. Member of Editorial Review Boards of the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, and Journal of Operations Management. Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Supply Chain Management.




Awards and Honoraries
Top 15% Award, Professorial Faculty at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, Fall 1997 through Spring 1999. Industry Experience

ive years experience in the areas of transportation and logistics with Ryder Systems, Hechinger Company, and the U.S. Department of Transportation.  Additional field-based research includes work with the CAPS Research and McKinsey & Company.
